I didn't get it either.
'John' has got a mini set list underneath the piano to follow with,
along with a few starting words to a certain song to help him remember the lyric order.
Which I thank him for - because after seeing that, I'm never going to forget that order either.



It was very cool to see how the show looks from the other point of view.
And I'd never actually been on a West End stage before, so I was a bit giddy about that too.

And having the centerfold for this entire visit was The Beatles.
And there's nooooooooothing in the world I like more than some rousing good ol' Beatles things!

This will forever be one of my favorite Beatles tunes.
Just because it's great.
And sometimes you don't need a better reason than that.


We Can Work It Out has two distinct melodies in it - both way too catchy.
I remember the first time I really heard a lot of Beatles songs, and this is one of the most memorable.
On our first visit to the Cavern Club, we decided to catch the tribute band that plays on Saturday nights,
and this song specifically played, and I was - of course - jamming hard.

The next day we woke up in the hostel, I was talking to Heather about the songs I knew and liked.
And I specifically remember saying,
"There was this one that is really fast, then gets really slow, then it gets fast again... and that's the only way I can describe it.."
& Heather was all - "OKAY. I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT"
We spent about 20 minutes searching on her iTunes because it was right on the tip of her tongue.

Really slow .. then really fast .. then gets really slow .. then fast again ..
Um .. what?

She finally found it and absolutely knew it was the exact song I was talking about.
And I still tell her to this day I will never be more impressed by anything she does after finding that song
from that poor, poor description.

FUN FACTS:

- The song was recorded in only two days, amounting to about 11 hours.

- The song was written about arguments with Paul's then girlfriend Jane Asher.
Who I love. And hope Paul is still regretting ruining the relationship.
Because, to put it simply - Jane. Is Perfect.

- It was released as a double a-side single with Day Tripper.
There were disputes about which song should be the a-side and which the b-side.
So instead of figuring out who gets their way,
they just went on and made them both a-sides - releasing the world's first double a-sided singles.
Because they are THE BEATLES. And they can do whatever the hell they want.


 I could watch the promo videos for this over and over.

Today's a fun day.

Because we are going to talk about a song Paul wrote that was literally dedicated to marijuana.

Got To Get You Into My Life is one of my favorites off Revolver.

It's upbeat, catchy, and will definitely get stuck in your head for the day.

Is there any better way to celebrate Paul coming back to Europe other than an event that literally centered around The Beatles?

Let It Be is less of a musical and more of a tribute.

It previously hit the West End in 2013 where it played at The Savoy Theatre,

and has recently found its way back - this time, though, at The Garrick Theatre.

Wednesday was opening night for the show, and in celebration, there were a few events held leading up to the evening performance.
The first, that I was invited to with the lovely Rebecca at Official Theatre,
took place at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel

They've recently become the hotel sponsors for the show, and have redecorated one of their suites in a Beatles-themed paradise.

The suite was filled with Beatles memorabilia and photographs from the production.

Beatles fanclub letters on the desk, playing cards, and even a guitar with a song book to try and teach yourself a few tunes.

The bedroom had more photos I couldn't stop gushing over and Sergeant Peppers pillows on the bed that I was resisting urges from taking home with me.

There was also champagne

and cake pops

and if you haven't already caught my drift, a LOT of Beatles stuff.

I was a very happy girl.

The band had a short acoustic set to play for us during the event

and as much as I wished they were taking requests, they did play If I Fell which was one I was hoping to hear, so I was pretty satisfied.

After, the guys gave some interviews and took a few photos with fans.

They were a bit rushed for time and others had prepared legitimate questions to ask them about the show and their role,

which was much better than my position, which was really just wanting to talk about the actual Beatles with a bunch of people who obviously loved them too.

So while the others got all professional, I gushed over how cute the boys were in A Hard Days Night that was playing on the TV while trying not to jump on the snare that Ringo left open...

The event ran for about an hour before the boys were rushed out for their NEXT pre-show event,
which was a 'rooftop concert' recreation on the balcony of the Garrick Theatre.

I was finishing up my 1st (or 4th) glass of champagne
and coming to grips that I was, in fact, not going to be allowed to call this suite my new home,
so we unfortunately missed the performance, but made it just in time for the actual show.

Now I'm a stickler when it comes to The Beatles.
If you don't know, I am a pretty big fan.
I notice the little movements and mannerisms, and can be pretty critical when they aren't up to par.
Overly picky? It's possible.

Anyways, even with this particular attitude,
I will say Let It Be is incredibly authentic.
For how much you can capture who John, Paul, George and Ringo were on stage,
these guys do a pretty good job.

The most impressive aspect of the show, though, is when they sing together.
Their harmonies are so close to what you'd hear on an actual record it blew my mind.
And that's coming from ME - so you know that means they did it really well.

If you haven't watched it, I'll put all judgements aside (no I won't),
and just say - WATCH IT.
They are way too cute in this to not watch it.

- Ringo falls through a hole during this song in the film. Like, it's just so great.
Just another reason why you should watch it.

- The majority of this song was completely recorded in a day.
ONE DAY.

- And I'm obsessed with the backing vocals on this. Just thought that was a fun fact too..

Today's all about George.

I read that Feb 6 was the day that George said was the first time he had seen The Quarrymen play.

(the first band John put together that pretttttty much started it all)

I'd say Georges introduction to John and Paul's playing is a legitimate factor in The Beatles history, wouldn't you?

Anyways, because of that - we're going GEORGE today!

He is a seriously underrated songwriter, but when three out of four members

(sorry Ringo)

of a group are some of the most badass lyricists in music history, that's bound to happen to someone.

A lot of Georges songs are absolute classics,

but possibly his most known creation is Something.

Frank Sinatra called it the 'greatest love song 

and it's literally been covered by every single person known to man, including Frank himself.

My favorite versions, though, are of course with George involved.

And I say versions because there are so many!

Like I said before - I almost prefer it to the original.
I just love it.

There's also another version of the song that's been deconstructed.
I seriously commend you if you take the time to listen to this entire video.
But you should.

There are few things better than a song that ever track within it is awesome.
Listening to is this way, you find things you never noticed.
For example - did you notice the little Hammond organ perks during the chorus?
I never really did. But after hearing it deconstructed and on it's own,
it's something I hear every time the song comes on now, and one of my favorite parts.

And do you hear, in the Vocals track, Paul humming along during the guitar solo?
I'm obsessed.

And the drum track.
 And the bass melody.
And the harmonies.
And that goddamn heart-melting guitar solo.

And George. Just him. All of him.


But really - the guitar and drum track from this song are on my list of learns.
Know anyone who could teach me both?

That classic that nobody will ever get sick of - for good reason.
