Fab Four Friday

I've been able to do quite a few Beatle-related things in my time,
see Paul McCartney live at the famous Royal Albert Hall,
enjoy one of the biggest Beatles music-festivals in the world,
find myself in London five months later, meeting Paul,
and I've even made myself quite at home in Liverpool, where the group grew up.

If you couldn't tell,
I really love The Beatles.
And because of that, welcome to Fridays on the blog:

Just a few little tidbits, fun facts, songs or stories
to end your week with.
Because who doesn't want to end their week with The Beatles?

Since I'm beginning this,
we'll start with some fun facts from their beginning.

Although the boys of The Beatles began dipping their toes in the music scene through the late 50s,
It wasn't until 1960 that 'The Beatles' became the name of the group.

And it wasn't until the fall of 1962 that The Beatles became The Beatles that you know;
John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Before that,
they were The Beatles - John, Paul, and George, with friend and drummer Pete Best.

These Beatles are known for their famous audition with Decca Records in London.
They had their audition the same day as another band,
and the end result?
The Beatles were rejected for a recording contract,
and Decca selected the other group, Brian Poole and The Tremeloes.

The songs that they played at the audition were recorded,
and some of them are on the Anthology albums that were released later on.

One of my favorites, that's always on repeat in my car,
is one of Paul McCartney's earliest songs,
called Like Dreamers Do.

This was the only recording of The Beatles singing the song,
But it was later given to another British group called The Applejacks.
But The Beatle's version will always be my favorite!
What are some of your favorite Beatles songs?

  2. Eleanor Rigby has been my favorite Beatles song since age 11. It was a darker song than I'd come to expect from them (which I loved), and the story it tells is interesting. I also love You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and She's A Woman. HELP! is one of my all-time FAVORITE movies. The Beatles are awesome :)

    1. Eleanor Rigby is my mom's favorite song too! It is a great one, as well as the other one's you named! I feel like it's hard to choose one song as a favorite, I always end up saying it like you did - 'I love this one .. but also this one and this one and this one!'
Help is my favorite movie too! I also really love Hard Days Night, but all of their moves are great - they are just so cute and humorous! I love their charm!

    1. If I could learn any track to any song, it's the drums on Come Together - I LOVE it! And I Want To Hold Your Hand is such a classic - you can't help but dance to it!
I really liked Across The Universe! The music was great and I definitely appreciate people's renditions of the songs, but the originals are just always going to be the best! There's also a bunch of tiny references here and there in the movie (ex: 'she came in through the bathroom window') that I really like picking out when I watch the movie!

  8. I love this! I used to work at a record store and this *craaazy* guy came in dressed in full Sgt. Pepper gear and said he was Ringo Starr and just passing through (Provo, UT...so, ok?). Anyways, I got him to sign something. Not the real Ringo, but that's my brush with fake Beatles fame. I'd rather see Paul at Royal Albert Hall - kinda jealous of that one.

    1. HA! I love this story! I would love to see someone walking around in Sgt Pepper wear!
When I was at the Beatles fest last year, there was an American guy there who impersonates Ringo Starr, and actually looks SO much like him! I had to double take when I first saw him!

  10. Fascinating! Can you imagine being one of the dudes that started off in the group before they got massive? Like, how did they sleep at night?

    1. Those guys actually get quite a bit of publicity themselves! Like, the guys in John's first band, The Quarrymen, still tour around as The Quarrymen! Still though, to think about being in with the guys, and then seeing how big they've got and to imagine 'what if I was still with them?' is just CRAZY!

  20. I am so happy you're doing this series!!! I am absolutely in love with The Beatles. I actually just got "The Alternate Abbey Road" CD over the weekend. It's Abbey Road, but with alternative versions of every song (recordings that were thrown out, that type of thing), and the cover has a description of how each is different. I'm so excited about it!
